At the end of the Mexican-American War in 1848 Texas, race tensions are high amongst Anglo-Americans and Mexicans, and that hatred leads them to committing horrific acts to keep these newly minted citizens off their land, which a mother and daughter painfully experience after being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
